New Battery
I've always hated dealing with these top-terminal batteries so when I did mine I put in a side terminal and couldn't be happier. Of course it means some other changes.... I picked up some inexpensive connectors from an electronics shop (Sayal) and used some appropriately gauged marine wire I had left over after doing my boat; also replaced the 10 gauge ground that goes to the body rather then just cutting and re-crimping or soldering.
I do have a home-made crimper I used for the other ends of the battery wires, so if one doesn’t have that ability he may have to buy pre-made wires, which I think were about $20 each. One nice thing is that I certainly don’t have to worry about the terminals contacting the bonnet frame.
One less-nice thing is that if I had the side valances on my engine I would likely have to modify them a little or reroute the wires above.
After checking out all my options I ended up with the same battery I used in my boat as a Dedicated Start Battery
Attached are my choices and final install.
Just another option.
Batteries I measured at Canadian Tire, Part Source, and Napa....
